Why we chose botanical materials over synthetic fragrance oils
When we started Zymbria, we tested both synthetic fragrance oils and botanical extracts. Synthetics are easier to work with: they are consistent, inexpensive and strong. Botanical extracts are the opposite. They vary from harvest to harvest, they are costly and they can be subtle to the point of disappearing in wax.
We chose botanicals anyway, for one reason. We wanted to be able to say what every scent is made from in plain words. Fir needle is fir needle. Orange peel is orange peel. That clarity matters to us more than a stronger throw.
The trade-off is real. Our candles are quieter than many you will find in stores, and some scents take a few minutes to fill a room. We think that is a fair exchange for knowing exactly what is burning on your table.
